I am definitely not one to post self-portraits - e I am definitely not one to post self-portraits - especially anything like this. There's a part of me that's very hesitant to post this even now. That said, I want to mark one of the few good things going on in my life the past two years and thank some of the people who helped me get there⁣⁣
⁣⁣
One year ago today, December 1st 2020, I weighed in at 258.2 lb. Lb. That number was actually down from my pandemic high, which was probably near 270. This morning, one year later, I weighed in at 180.2 lb - 78 lb lighter - and just under 19% body fat.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
This process was not undertaken purely out of vanity - at one point during 2020, I was in the ER with a blood pressure of 215/160 (yes, diastolic of 160) - so this process was very much about not dying as anything else. 😆⁣⁣
⁣⁣
My eventual goal is to be under 14% body fat, though I'm very happy to be where I am now - you can even sorta kinda see abs peeking through there (they're there, I swear 😜)⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Thank you to everyone who helped me along the way, especially @boxnburn (who are still helping me) and my "Secret Squirrel" motivation source, who I won't name outright, but who knows damn well who she is - no clue if I could have gotten started without her and certainly wouldn't have had the success I did. 🥰⁣⁣
⁣⁣
And other than Lightroom adjustments, that's all me - right down to the bicep acne and the stretch marks 😆 (too much love for @ashleygraham to be ashamed of my stripes 😁)⁣⁣

On February 9th, 2020, my life exploded. I am not On February 9th, 2020, my life exploded. I am not exaggerating when I say that my life as it had been ended that day. The weeks that followed were, without a doubt, the absolute worst of my life.

Then, after the 5 weeks of utter hell abated slightly, the pandemic hit in earnest. I arrived back in Los Angeles on March 12th - one day before the city shut down.

The months that followed were a gray blur punctuated by moments of compounded tragedy. It is also not an exaggeration to say that the pandemic itself was barely in the top-5 worst things about my 2020 experience.

As I'm now, a year and a half later, well into the process of grief and recovery and the pandemic itself seems to be waning (despite the best efforts of some of my fellow Americans to keep it alive and well), I return to Instagram with photos of what was the last "normal" moment I had for very long time.

These are from @ToveLo at @StAndrewsHall for her Sunshine Kitty tour. I was originally to see her again the next night in Chicago - that never happened.

She performed that night in Detroit, mostly sitting down, having broken her foot less than a week earlier in Brooklyn. The break did nothing to stop her from putting on an amazing show - performing while sitting in what can only be called a throne, queen that she is.
